Dahday's Pick For Post-World Cup Soccer Matches In The Region

Soccer fans in the U.S. have just one World Cup match to enjoy on Sunday but after that Argentina vs. Germany final there are still plenty of local games to catch stateside. Here’s Dahday’s list of games to watch in the region.

Saturday, July 12 at 7pm: Philadelphia vs. Colorado at PPL Park, Chester, PA and New York vs. Columbus at Red Bull Arena, Harrison, N.J.

For those whose favorite team’s been taking of the running in the World Cup finals, you can watch Philadelphia Union or New York Red Bulls face the Colorado Rapids or the Columbus Crew, respectively.

You can see some World Cup participants live on the pitch too. Two members of the Cinderella Costa Rican National Team, Waylon Francis and Giancarlo Gonzalez, will represent the Columbus Crew on July 12 against the Red Bulls and its midfielder Tim Cahill, who returns from his two-goal World Cup performance for Australia.

Wednesday, July 16 at 7pm: Philadelphia vs. New York at PPL Park, Chester, PA

A good post-World Cup game to check out, the Union and Red Bulls will face each other in an East Coast match-up for the final time in Major League Soccer this season. Both clubs are fighting for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference so it’s sure to have a little more intensity than a normal, regular season game. 

Saturday, July 26 at 7pm: New York vs. Arsenal at Red Bull Arena, Harrison, N.J.

A special treat for international soccer (sorry, “football”) fans, the Red Bulls will be hosting a special friendly with the lauded Arsenal club of London, England. This marks the final time Arsenal will play in the U.S. this season, so hurry up and get your tickets NOW!

Wednesday, July 30 at 7pm: Mancester City vs. Liverpool at Yankee Stadium, Bronx, N.Y.
This Premiership match up in New York City will treat well fans with World Cup hangovers. Footballers like Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero of Argentina and Steven Gerrard of England and Mamadou Sakho of France, among others, may play on the pitch for this exhibition.

Tuesday, September 9 at 8:30pm: Brazil vs. Ecuador at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, N.J.

Both these South American sides drew its fans to tears at this World Cup, culminating in Brazil’s historic loss to Germany. In September, these two clubs will come to New Jersey. Despite their disappointing finishes in the tournament, fans will be sure to enjoy these clubs’ rare appearances in the region.
