How To Enjoy New York Mets Spring Training…In 2017

March 19, 2016

Mets logo tmGoing to spring training following a World Series appearance is pretty cool. Even cooler has been visiting the team’s spring training facility’s parking lot this year to see what kind of ride Yoenis Cespedes brought in that day.

If you haven’t made it down to Port St. Lucie, Florida to see Matt Harvey, Jacob De Grom, “The Captain” David Wright, Curtis Granderson and the rest of the Mets this spring, don’t worry. Visiting next year in both home and visiting ballparks may provide a more fun-filled experience. Here’s why:

1. More Action Down South

Port St. Lucie is located on the eastern coast of Florida about an hour and a half north of Fort Lauderdale. For Mets fans, it’s great to see the squad at Tradition Field.

Inside the ballpark, you can hang out at the tiki bar or just get a ticket to sit in the grass out beyond the outfield fences. Outside the ballpark, fans can check out the baseball autograph collection at Elliot Museum in nearby Stuart, Florida or hit the local beaches. Fans recommend places like West End Grill and Vine and Barley to eat and drink.

Otherwise, action is limited near the ballpark. You may find yourself traveling south for things to do before and after a game.

2. More Fun To Root On The Road

About 40 minutes down I-95, you can enjoy the Mets on the road at Roger Dean Stadium, the home of both the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins. Built in 1998, this ballpark is more modern than Tradition Field and sits close to beaches, shopping and live music at Harbourside Place and the food truck invasion taking place the second Friday of March each year.

Then on top of that, Jupiter sits closer still to the town opening the newest spring training ballpark opening in 2017.

2. Check Out A New Ballpark

The Washington Nationals and Houston Astros are set to open its spring training season next year just south of 45th Street in West Palm Beach. In 2017, Mets fans would be able to take in a new stadium, have the opportunity to see star players like Bryce Harper, Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve and enjoy a short ride to Lion Country Safari, Palm Beach Zoo and the Palm Beaches.
