The holidays are fast approaching! If you like to be filled with holiday cheer with a sporting event, a concert or a show, here are some ideas on what’s going on in the region:

New York City:

Saturday, December 3 at 2pm and 7pm: Hip Hop Nutcracker at United Palace Theater, New York, N.Y. | Buy Tickets
Hip hop culture takes over Tchaikovsky’s famous holiday score in this family-oriented show. Rap legend Kurtis Blow helps host this show full of breakdancing, music and hip hop style.

This show stops in Newark, N.J. as well.

December 5, 7-8, 10-11 and 13-17: Mariah Carey at Beacon Theatre, New York, N.Y., 10023 | Free Price Quote

Now an annual engagement, Long Island native Mariah Carey comes back to New York City for her residency at Beacon Theatre to ring in the holidays. Fans should some of her biggest hits and some “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and other holiday classics.

December 10-11, 13-18: The First Noel at Apollo Theater, New York, N.Y. | Buy Tickets
This Gospel-inspired holiday show is a production just in its second season at the world famous Apollo Theater. The sentimental musical tells the story through the eyes of a young woman named Noel, who reminisces about her days in Harlem when they “didn’t have a Whole Foods.” This show is perfect for families and would even provide discounts for groups.

So if you are tired of the same ol’ traditional Christmas program, then this Funkadelic-inspired concert may do the trick. Forget Santa – let Holidelic lead man Everett Bradley, who is part of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band when he is not spreading holiday cheer. His band of merry men and women will funk up Jersey and Philly too.

Monday, December 19 at 8pm: Jose Feliciano – Holiday Feliz Navidad Tour at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill, New York, N.Y. | Buy Tickets
International folk legend Jose Feliciano brings his annual bilingual show playing a mix of his hits as well as English language and Spanish language holiday classics. Feliciano’s tour hits Newark, N.J. for two concerts as well.

New Jersey:
Saturday, December 3 at 8pm: Hot for the Holidays with Usher, Travis Scott, T.I. Lil Yachty, Jidenna and others at Prudential Center, Newark, N.J. | Free Price Quote
Newark will be lit with this concert hosted by Hot 97 FM.

Friday, December 16 at 7pm: Holidelic at Paramount Theatre, Asbury Park, N.J. | Buy Tickets
