Dahday's Picks for Best NBA Games To See Live Before The Playoffs

January 27, 2016

Another NBA season is heading towards the All-Star Break.

Most of the talk surrounds Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors’ pursuit for 73 wins, the beautiful basketball of the Spurs, the punch-throwing of Blake Griffin and the old-man-game play of Kobe Bryant in L.A., the high expectations in Cleveland and the “unicorn” sightings at The Garden.

Around here, there are lots of great games worth your hard-earned dollars — match-ups featuring a King, a Chef and that unicorn. Here are Dahday’s picks of the best coming up:

Curry Cooking Up The East Coast

Saturday, January 30 at 5pm: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Golden State Warriors at Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, PA | Buy Tickets

Sunday, January 31 at 7:30pm: New York Knicks vs. Golden State Warriors at Madison Square Garden, N.Y. | Buy Tickets

The NBA champion Warriors, looking like a dominant team after their recent wins against San Antonio and Cleveland, spend this weekend up and down I-95 as they take on the NBA-worst 76ers and the playoff-minded Knicks.

For Chef Curry fans, it doesn’t matter if these games could be blowouts, they just want to see this …

…and this.

For Sixers fans, the stat that Philly has won all but one of its six games against Western Conference opponents would give them some fleeting hope. Regardless, it will be fun to see Golden State against Jahlil Okafor and Ish Smith, both of whom have elevated their games as of late. For Knicks fans, they can enjoy seeing how their team measures up against the best. Plus, seeing a Draymond Green or Andre Iguodala vs. Kristaps Porginzis match-up would be pretty cool for hoops junkies.

Battle of the Boroughs

Friday, February 19 at 7:30pm: Brooklyn Nets vs. New York Knicks at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. | Buy Tickets

Ok, yeah, the Nets are all messed up. But, there are two NBA teams in New York City and they play each other again this year. So Knicks fans can see Melo and Company in Brooklyn – and in lots of cases save money by doing so – while Nets fans can do the Brooklyn chant and hope the home team spoils the party for all those fans in Orange and Blue.

The King Arrives

Thursday, March 24 at 7:30pm: Brooklyn Nets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers at Barclays Center, Brooklyn, N.Y. | Buy Tickets

Sunday, March 26 at 7:30pm: New York Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden, New York, N.Y. | Buy Tickets

While the West Coast teams duke each other out, the talented Cavaliers seem to have a less brutal road ahead towards an Eastern Conference title. But with the recent firing of David Blatt and the hiring of that guy A.I. stepped over in Game One of the 2001 NBA Finals, Lebron’s team knows it must gel quickly and win the championship for this year to be a success.

NBA fans in NYC have two chances in March to see King James, West Orange, N.J.’s Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in person. In particular, that March 26 game in MSG will be big for the Knicks too because of….

…New York’s Playoff Push

Sunday, April 10 at 7:30pm: New York Knicks vs. Toronto Raptors at Madison Square Garden, New York, N.Y. | Buy Tickets

Yes, the Knicks might end up in the playoffs this spring. There is a scenario where this late season matchup against DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry and the Toronto Raptors could loom large. The Drakes will be fighting for seeding while the Knicks may be playing for their playoff lives.
