Dahday’s Five Favorite Aretha Franklin Live Clips

The undisputed Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, passed away on August 16 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 76 years old. 

As fans reflect on her legendary career, Dahday wanted to post five of our favorite live clips. Rest in power, Aretha.
A daughter of a pastor and the city of Detroit, Franklin’s early influences and vocal versatility shows early on in her career. Here is a delightful black and white clip of her singing a jazzy “Running Out of Fools:”

Her gospel chops are undeniable in all of her work, even in some of her biggest pop hits, like “Say A Little Prayer For You:”

So many of her hits are timeless classics, remade and remixed over the decades. Fans new and old would recognize this classic, performed here live in the 1970s:

 

Franklin influenced generations of fellow divas, and at times collaborated with the younger generation of singers. Here is Franklin performing with Mariah Carey:

Possibly the most telling display of Aretha’s greatness was this last-minute performance in a genre few associate her with. Here is the late, great Aretha Franklin beautifully singing Nessun Donna at the GRAMMYS in 1998:
