Dahday's Favorite Gipsy Kings Live Clips

March 1, 2016

The power and passion of gitano culture will take over NJPAC on May 15. In celebration of the world’s most popular flamenca rumba group, here are Dahday’s favorite live clips:

America learned about this France-based group of Spanish heritage in 1987 with their self-titled release, Gipsy Kings. That album spent 40 weeks on the US charts, highlighted by this international hit “Bamboléo.”

Another well-recognized song from this album came from their Spanish-language rendition of Frank Sinatra’s classic, “A Mi Manera.”

The Gipsy Kings has toured the world and record albums ever since, winning the Latin GRAMMY Best Pop Album Of The Year award for the “Love & Liberté” album in 1993 and a Best World Album Of The Year GRAMMY Award in 2013. The group’s biggest hit from the 1993 album came from the song, “Viviré:”

The group also has appeared on movie soundtracks. Fans of The Big Lebowski may remember this use of a Gipsy Kings song in the 1998 movie:

Another hit that shows the flamenco power of their music would be this 90s classic, La Rumba de Nicolas:
