Ice Cube, Janelle Monae and Ceelo Green Headline AFROPUNK 2016 Brooklyn This August

April 12, 2016

AFROPUNK, which holds its annual soul, rock and funk concert festival in Brooklyn, N.Y. each summer, has announced its 2016 lineup.

Afropunk logoThe festival, which will take place August 27 and 28 at Commodore Barry Park this year, will feature hit-makers Janelle Monae and Ceelo Green, hip hop artists Ice Cube and Tyler The Creator and rock groups like TV on the Radio, Living Color and Fishbone.

Ceelo Green and Tyler The Creator among others headline the August 27 slate. Monae, Ice Cube and The Internet lead the final set of performances on August 28.

This annual festival hosted Goldlink, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz and Grace Jones among others in 2015. Brooklyn’s festival may be the only shot for fans in the U.S. to see this eclectic mix of artists. Last year’s Atlanta festival was cancelled reportedly due to weather. A festival also takes place in Paris this June.

If you long for the days when Afropunk was free, you can get a taste of the August mega concert at Lincoln Center’s Out Of Doors series on July 27, when Sate and The VeeVees perform at Damrosch Park.
